A museum in the Takeshi district of Ueda devoted to the history of lighting, opened in 1989 to mark the centenary of the former Takeshi Village. Its collection traces lamps and lanterns from ancient oil dishes through candlesticks and andon to Meiji-era lamps, and visitors can try fire-starting and candle-making.
