Anrakuji Temple

A Soto Zen temple in Bessho Onsen whose octagonal three-storied pagoda is the only one of its kind in Japan and the oldest Zen-style structure in the country, designated a National Treasure. Reached by a cedar-lined stone stairway, the temple sits among the hillside sanctuaries that earned Bessho the name of the Kamakura of Shinshu.
