A quiet hot spring town in the mountains west of Ueda, named for a legend in which a deer revealed the spring to a hunter. Designated a National Health Resort Hot Spring, it is known for its gentle alkaline simple waters, the vermilion Godaibashi bridge over the Uchimura River gorge and Bunjudo hall above it.
