A lavishly decorated Shinto shrine built in 1617 as the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Edo shogunate. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the complex features over a dozen ornate structures adorned with gold leaf and intricate wood carvings, including the famous Yomeimon Gate.
