A shrine in Izumo also known as Matsuo Shrine, recorded in the 8th-century Izumo Fudoki as the place where the gods gathered to brew sake. It is revered as a birthplace of Japanese sake and still holds a licence to brew a small annual batch for its October doburoku rite.
