Niihama's principal shrine, founded in the 12th century and home to a camphor tree designated a national natural monument. It is the climax stage of the Niihama Taiko Festival, when decorated taiko-dai floats are hoisted shoulder-to-shoulder in the kakikurabe contest on the shrine grounds.
