Niihama Taiko Festival

About this event

One of Shikoku's three great festivals. More than fifty taiko-dai floats, each about 5.5 m tall and weighing three tonnes and covered in gold and silver embroidery, are carried through Niihama by teams of around 150 bearers. The highlight is the kakikurabe, when rival floats are hoisted overhead side by side, with the unified gathering at Yamane Ground and the contest at Ichinomiya Shrine on the final day.
