The tutelary shrine of Kanuma in Tochigi Prefecture. It is the stage for the Kanuma Imamiya Shrine Float Festival, inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, when 27 elaborately carved wooden floats are dedicated each October. Centuries-old sacred trees and finely carved shrine buildings reward a visit at any time of year.
