About this event
One of Japan's three great fire festivals, held annually on July 14 at Kumano Nachi Taisha. Twelve giant torches weighing 50kg each are carried down the stone steps in front of Nachi Falls (Japan's tallest waterfall at 133m), purifying the path for twelve fan-shaped portable shrines. A spectacular display of fire and water.
