About this event
One of Japan's three great fire festivals, held annually on July 14 at Kumano Nachi Taisha Grand Shrine. Twelve massive torches weighing 50kg each are carried up the stone steps to greet twelve sacred fan-shaped mikoshi descending from the waterfall.
