Nachi Fire Festival (Nachi no Ogi Matsuri)

About this event

One of Japan's three great fire festivals, held at the sacred Kumano Nachi Taisha and Nachi Falls. Twelve enormous pine torches, each weighing over 50kg, are carried down the stone steps of the shrine in a spectacular fire dance to purify the path for the twelve sacred fan-shaped mikoshi.
