The Shunjoki is a memorial ceremony at Todai-ji honoring Chogen, the remarkable monk who spearheaded the reconstruction of the temple after it was burned in the Genpei War in 1180. His tireless efforts over decades restored the Great Buddha Hall and brought the temple back to life. This solemn annual service pays tribute to one of the most dedicated figures in Japanese Buddhist history.
