About this event
The Shunie ceremony at Todaiji Temple, also known as the "Omizutori" water-drawing rite, is one of Japan's most ancient Buddhist rituals, held annually at Nigatsu-do Hall. Sacred fire torches are swung over the balcony each night, and sacred water is drawn on March 12th in a ceremony that has continued unbroken for over 1,200 years.
