Kunozan Tosho-gu
Shizuoka, Japan
⛩️ Temple🛕 Shrine

Kunozan Tosho-gu is a magnificent Shinto shrine in Shizuoka dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Edo shogunate, and is considered the most historically authentic of the three Tosho-gu shrines. The shrine sits atop Mount Kuno, reached by a cable car or a steep 1,159-step staircase, and was built in 1617 by Ieyasu's son as the first shrine to enshrine his deified spirit. The elaborate architecture features spectacular lacquerwork and carvings similar to the more famous Nikko Tosho-gu.
