The most important shrine in Utsunomiya, situated atop a hill in the city center. Dedicated to the deity Toyokiirihiko-no-Mikoto, it has been a center of worship for over 1,600 years and is the ichinomiya (first-ranked shrine) of Shimotsuke Province.
