Usuki Castle Ruins (Usuki Park)

The remains of the island fortress built in 1562 by the Christian daimyo Otomo Sorin, who ruled much of Kyushu from here. Land reclamation has long since joined the former island to the shore, and the site is now Usuki Park, where stone walls, the Kaizu-guchi gate, two surviving turrets and a shrine sit above the old castle town. It is a well-known cherry blossom spot in spring and a main stage of the Usuki Takeyoi bamboo lantern festival each autumn.
