The most important Shinto shrine in Kamakura, founded in 1063 by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi. Set at the end of a grand tree-lined approach (Dankazura) leading from the coast, this shrine was the religious center of the Kamakura shogunate. Features a lotus pond garden, the Main Hall atop a grand stone staircase, and seasonal festivals throughout the year.
