Suwa Grand Shrine

One of the oldest and most important Shinto shrines in Japan, with origins predating recorded history. The shrine complex consists of four separate shrines around Lake Suwa. Famous for the Onbashira Festival held every six years, where massive logs are ridden down mountainsides in a spectacular and dangerous ritual.
