Kumano Taisha (Nanyo)
Nanyo, Japan
🛕 Shrine
One of Japan's three great Kumano shrines, said to have been founded in the 8th century in the Miyauchi district of Nanyo, Yamagata. Its massive thatched main hall is a prefectural cultural property, and visitors hunt for the three hidden rabbits carved into the rear of the hall — finding all three is said to grant a wish. The shrine grounds host the Nanyo Chrysanthemum Festival each autumn.
