One of Japan's most beautiful castles, famous for its unique red-tiled roof, the only one of its kind among Japanese castles. The castle played a central role in the Boshin War of 1868 and now houses a museum of samurai history. Surrounded by a scenic park renowned for cherry blossoms in spring and illumination events.
