A group of uninhabited islands off the coast of Wakayama, famous for their abandoned Meiji-era military fortifications. The atmospheric ruins of brick-and-stone gun batteries overgrown with vegetation have made it a hugely popular photography and hiking destination, often compared to scenes from Studio Ghibli's Laputa.
