If you've ever wanted to experience the full force of K-pop fandom in Japan, KCON JAPAN 2026 is the event to circle on your calendar. Running May 8–10 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, this annual convention has grown into the largest celebration of Korean pop culture in Japan — blending stadium-scale concerts with a sprawling convention floor where fans, creators, and brands converge.
What Is KCON?
KCON started in 2012 as a single-day event in Los Angeles and has since expanded into a global franchise with editions in New York, Bangkok, Saudi Arabia, and Tokyo. The Japan edition, held at Makuhari Messe since its early years, has become one of the biggest stops on the circuit. The format is split into two main components: the Convention (daytime) and the Concert (evening). One ticket covers the convention; concert tickets are sold separately and tend to sell out fast.
The Convention Floor
The daytime convention is where KCON really distinguishes itself from a typical concert. Across multiple halls at Makuhari Messe, you'll find:
- Meet & Greet sessions with K-pop artists — these are lottery-based, so register early through the official KCON app.
- K-Beauty and K-Fashion booths showcasing the latest Korean cosmetics, skincare, and streetwear brands. Many offer exclusive samples and event-only products.
- Dance cover contests where fan groups perform choreography from their favorite groups on stage. The energy is infectious — even if you're just watching.
- Korean food stalls serving tteokbokki, Korean fried chicken, hotteok, and more. Lines can get long, so eat early or late.
- Creator stages featuring YouTube and TikTok personalities from the K-pop community.
- Fan art and merchandise zones with both official goods and independent creators selling prints, photocards, and accessories.
The Concerts
The evening concerts are the main draw for most attendees. KCON typically books a mix of top-tier groups and rising acts — think a lineup spanning established names and fourth-generation groups that are dominating charts. The concert setup at Makuhari Messe's Event Hall is arena-style, with standing and seated sections. Past KCON Japan editions have featured elaborate stage production with LED walls, pyrotechnics, and multi-camera fan cams projected live.
Artist lineups are usually announced in waves starting 4–6 weeks before the event, so keep checking the official KCON site and social channels for updates.
Tips for First-Timers
- Get the KCON app — it's essential for registering for meet & greets, checking schedules, and accessing digital tickets.
- Arrive early for merch — official artist merchandise booths open before the convention floor and the most popular items sell out within hours.
- Bring a portable charger — you'll be on your phone all day between social media, the KCON app, and taking photos.
- Dress light — Makuhari Messe's halls get warm with thousands of fans packed together, especially during concerts.
- Learn basic lightstick etiquette — each group has official lightsticks (penlight/bong), and they sync via Bluetooth during concerts. Having the right lightstick for your group is part of the experience.
