Nobeoka Ayu Yana Fish Weir

A river-fishing tradition more than 300 years old. A weir of bamboo and timber is built across the Ose River to catch ayu (sweetfish) as they swim downstream to spawn. An adjoining restaurant serves the catch salt-grilled or as furumayo, making this one of Nobeoka's signature autumn sights.
