About this event
The autumn festival of Sugawara Shrine in Iga-Ueno, running for over 400 years and inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2016. On the final day two portable shrines are escorted by a procession of more than a hundred masked demons, followed by nine ornate danjiri floats modelled on the floats of Kyoto's Gion Festival, winding through the old castle-town streets to the sound of festival music.
