About this event
A unique summer purification ritual at the UNESCO World Heritage Shimogamo Shrine. Visitors wade barefoot through the sacred Mitarashi Pond carrying candles, praying for health and protection from illness. The cool spring water provides welcome relief from Kyoto's summer heat, creating a mystical atmosphere as hundreds of candle flames flicker in the twilight.
