Saitobaru Burial Mounds

One of Japan's largest groups of ancient burial mounds and a designated Special Historic Site: over 300 kofun scattered across a plateau 2.6 km east to west and 4.2 km north to south, built between the 3rd and 7th centuries and including the huge Osahozuka and Mesahozuka tombs. Rapeseed and cherry blossom fill the fields in spring, cosmos and sunflowers in autumn, and the prefectural Saitobaru Archaeological Museum displays the finds.
