A National Treasure shrine built in 1607 by order of Date Masamune, founder of Sendai. The main hall, stone hall, and worship hall are designated as Japan's oldest surviving Gongen-zukuri shrine architecture, featuring elaborate black lacquer with gold leaf, vivid carvings, and metalwork. Famous for the Donto-sai festival in January, drawing over 100,000 visitors.
