A small Tendai temple on the slopes of Mount Kinugasa, said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku in 605. Its dry landscape garden of moss and weathered rocks is attributed to Kobori Enshu and is designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty. The temple opens to the public only in spring and autumn, when hundreds of maples turn the bamboo-lined approach crimson.
