A historic Shinto shrine in Taito ward, Tokyo, dating back to 651 AD. Home to Tokyo's heaviest portable shrine (mikoshi) weighing 4 tons. The annual Torigoe Matsuri in early June is one of Tokyo's most exciting downtown festivals, climaxing with a lantern-lit nighttime mikoshi parade through narrow streets. The shrine sits in a traditional shitamachi neighborhood near Asakusabashi.
