Tsuruga Castle, also known as Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle, is a beautifully restored feudal castle famous for its striking red-tiled roof. It was the site of the famous Battle of Aizu in 1868, where samurai of the Aizu clan made a legendary last stand during the Boshin War. Today the castle houses a museum exploring the history of the Aizu domain and its samurai culture.
