Shorinzan Daruma-ji Temple

The birthplace of Japan's iconic Daruma dolls and a Zen temple of the Obaku school. Founded in 1697, this temple on a hilltop in Takasaki is famous for its annual Daruma Market held every January 6-7, attracting over 200,000 visitors. The grounds feature thousands of Daruma offerings and a modernist guesthouse designed by architect Bruno Taut.
