A wooden schoolhouse of 1900 in the Fukiya copper and red-ochre mining village, in continuous use until 2012 and thought to be the oldest wooden school building in Japan still standing in its original form. Restored and reopened to visitors, its symmetrical facade anchors the Bengara-red streetscape.
