A major Shinto shrine in central Kagoshima dedicated to Shimazu Nariakira, the 28th lord of the Satsuma domain and a key figure in Japan's modernization. The shrine hosts the famous Rokugatsudo lantern festival in July, one of Kagoshima's largest summer festivals.
