A magnificent mountain temple founded in 966, perched atop Mount Shosha in Himeji. Accessible by ropeway, the temple complex features stunning wooden architecture nestled among ancient cedar forests. Famous as a filming location for The Last Samurai and other movies. The three main halls (Mitsunodo) and the massive Daikodo lecture hall are among the most impressive wooden structures in western Japan.
