Yahiko Shrine

Echigo Province's ichinomiya (first shrine), nestled at the foot of sacred Mt. Yahiko and said to have a history of over 2,400 years. The forested grounds, grand torii gate and cedar-lined approach draw worshippers year-round; a ropeway climbs the mountain behind. Every November the precincts host the Yahiko Chrysanthemum Festival, one of Japan's largest chrysanthemum exhibitions.
