About this event
The Toka Shinji at Sumiyoshi Taisha is an ancient ceremony in which shrine maidens (miko) perform the traditional stomping dance (toka) as an offering to drive away evil and usher in good fortune for the new year. This elegant ritual traces its origins to the imperial court and is rarely seen elsewhere.
