About this event
The Yoimiya-sai is the solemn eve festival held at Yasaka Shrine on the night before the first of the two Yamaboko float processions. Priests perform sacred rites to invoke divine protection for the following day's grand parade. The shrine is beautifully lit as the city of Kyoto holds its breath in anticipation of the Gion Festival's most iconic moment.
