About this event
Japan's largest and most elaborate Tanabata (Star Festival) celebration, transforming Sendai's covered shopping arcades with thousands of handmade bamboo decorations and colorful paper streamers. Each year, local businesses and organizations create stunning displays competing for awards. A fireworks festival with 16,000 fireworks takes place on the eve of August 5.
