About this event
The Kaisan-ki at Tofuku-ji is a solemn annual memorial ceremony honoring Shoichi Kokushi, the illustrious monk who founded this vast Rinzai Zen temple complex in 1236. Monks in full ceremonial robes gather in the Founder's Hall to perform sutras and ritual offerings in memory of their revered ancestor. The ceremony is a cornerstone of the temple's spiritual calendar and a rare glimpse into authentic Zen monastic life.
