The Sacred Rice Planting Festival at Sumiyoshi Taisha is one of Japan's oldest agricultural rituals, with roots stretching back over 1,800 years. Shrine maidens in elegant Heian-period attire perform ceremonial rice planting in the sacred paddy fields. The colorful procession and ancient court music make this one of Osaka's most visually stunning festivals.
