The Grand Segaki Ceremony at Zojoji is one of the most elaborate Buddhist memorial rites of the year, offering prayers and symbolic food to wandering spirits without anyone to pray for them. Senior priests lead the solemn service, which includes sutra chanting, ritual offerings, and the burning of sacred texts. The ceremony embodies the Jodo Buddhist ideal of universal compassion extending to all beings, seen and unseen.
