About this event
A 600-year-old festival at Omiya Shrine in Yamaga, Kumamoto, featuring exquisite paper lanterns crafted without glue or wire. In 2026, the festival is scaled back to shrine rituals and lantern displays at 27 locations across the city due to the Kumamoto earthquake, with the Thousand Person Lantern Dance and fireworks cancelled.
