Fujisaki Hachimangu Autumn Grand Festival 2026

About this event

The autumn grand festival of Fujisaki Hachimangu, the guardian shrine of Kumamoto, traditionally the event that announces the arrival of autumn in the city. In 2026 the shrine has announced that the Shinkoshiki — the great procession with its decorated horses and thousands of Zuihyo attendants — is cancelled because of damage from the Kumamoto earthquake; the rites and dedicatory performances before the shrine are held as usual on 13-15 and 19-20 September.
