The Jidai Matsuri — Festival of the Ages — is one of Kyoto's three greatest festivals, held annually on October 22nd to celebrate the founding of the city. A grand procession of over 2,000 participants in historically accurate costumes from every era of Kyoto's history, from the Heian period to the Meiji era, parades through the city streets. Walking through this living timeline is one of the most extraordinary cultural experiences Japan has to offer.
