Chusonji Chrysanthemum Festival

About this event

For four weeks each autumn the grounds of Chusonji, the World Heritage temple of Hiraizumi, fill with some 500 potted chrysanthemums raised by local growers and schoolchildren - large single blooms, cascade forms and thousand-bloom plants. They are judged during the festival, and a chrysanthemum memorial service is held. The display coincides with the temple's maple foliage. Open 8:30-17:00 (until 16:30 from 4 November).
