About this event
The Seiryu-e Blue Dragon Ceremony at Kiyomizudera is one of Kyoto's most theatrical festival events, held twice a year on the equinoxes. A procession of monks and attendants escorts a magnificent blue dragon deity through the temple grounds to a sacred spring, symbolizing the dragon's role as guardian of the Otowa waterfall. The sight of the vivid blue dragon winding through the incense-filled precincts is an unforgettable spectacle.
