Nagaoka's autumn festival celebrating the "spirit of the hundred rice bales" — investing in the future even in hardship. The highlight is the Echigo-Nagaoka historical procession from 15:00, in which some 500 citizens dressed as Bakumatsu-era samurai and local heroes parade through the city center, with battle reenactments along the way. Held around Aore Nagaoka and the main street.
