8th Kokura Castle Take-Akari Bamboo Lantern Festival

For twelve nights the grounds of Kokura Castle are lit by some thirty thousand bamboo lanterns, cut from the neglected bamboo groves that are choking the hills around Kitakyushu and drilled with patterns that throw points of light across the stone walls and moat. Open 18:00-21:00, last entry 20:30.
