About this event
The Yamaboko Parade (Sakimatsuri) is the most iconic event of the Gion Festival, in which massive ornate floats called yamaboko parade through the heart of Kyoto's downtown. The floats, some towering over 25 meters tall and weighing several tons, are decorated with exquisite tapestries and craftsmanship accumulated over centuries. Watching the procession from the sidewalks of Shijo and Kawaramachi is a bucket-list experience for visitors from around the world.
