Goju Sodenkai

The Goju Sodenkai at Zojoji Temple is a highly sacred ceremony in which participants receive the five successive levels of Jodo sect doctrine directly from a senior priest. This transmission of teaching, known as "inheriting the robe," is one of the most profound ritual events in Pure Land Buddhism and is only held occasionally at major Jodo temples. Participants undergo several days of deep instruction culminating in a solemn ceremony of succession.
